Hands-on craftsman testing with zero corporate fluff or scripted hype.
Drool For Tools was built to cut through marketing press releases and generic affiliate roundups. When a tool enters our shop, it isn't unboxed for a thirty-second video clip; it is put into real service on hardwood furniture joinery, equipment maintenance, and structural framing.
We do not accept paid reviews, sponsored rankings, or promotional copy from tool manufacturers. If a tool fails to hold 90-degree squareness or thermal-throttles under heavy oak ripping, we state it plainly.
Manufacturer claims on packaging are theoretical maximums measured in sterile conditions. We test cast iron tables for coplanar alignment with precision machinist straightedges, check arbor runout with dial indicators, and verify continuous amp draw under real working loads.
Every tool is an engineering compromise between cost, weight, power, and ergonomics. We document the annoying flaws (awkward switch placement, stiff bevel gears, or sub-par dust ports) alongside the mechanical strengths so you know exactly what you are purchasing.
Rocko is a German Shorthaired Pointer who oversees daily shop operations from his duck canvas bed. He checks every package delivery, inspects freshly cut cedar shavings, and ensures breaks happen on schedule. If a tool makes a high-pitched bearing squeal that sends Rocko out the door, it doesn't get a Bench Standard badge.
